microsoft are bad.
macs are great.
linux also seems to be good but a bit complicated.
word to the mac using massif.
people who generate details for races should be taught how to make pdf s. its as simple as that. there are enough people out there who know how to do it. in fact i think i shall create a tutorial in the next few days and host it on nopesport, as well as sending it out to all clubs.
if organisations are going to use the internet to distribute info, they need to do it properly. this may sound a bit harsh, but imagine writing an important letter without knowing how to use a pen.

from previous years i believe it is pretty simple as you're just running along streets/alleys/parks so not technically difficult. however, with it being bank holiday monday, there will be a lot of people about, especially if it's decent weather, so anyone scared of large crowds should probably avoid it!
we're likely to be taking a load of beginners from uni, so there should be loads of beginners hoping to have some good proper banter.

The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

Hmmm. An unfortunate analogy, given how many people rely on word processors, and certainly can't use a pen properly (cursive script, what's that? Spelling? Grammar?).
Surely better to have the info on the internet in some (common) form than not at all, although I agree a broader based format would be better.

I should really learn how to quote, but in reply to Supersaint's question about the race being okay for kids, the rule is usually that they have to be over 14 due to the traffic involved in the city centre. I haven't looked atthe details for this year but you should probs check with someone from EBOR to see if this is the case.
Will? We've got proper fire now!

Aye cheers Becks, I thought as much... It's just I've got an uncle (a road running type) who lives down that way who keeps threatening to go o-ing with his kids (aged 11 & 14ish), and I thought the location/timing etc. would have been perfect as a first event to get them interested. I'll hang fire for another event for them

Just to add to the Sprint races being a bit ace and fab thing the Animal Park Sprint on Friday was the most orienteering fun I've had in ages. Butterly looped races, clambering up and down crags, leaping off walls, avoiding the tigers - fantastic! Does anyone who went have a scanner so the map could be put up on the maps page?

isnt that what i was saying?
If it was, my apologies, but it reads to me that .doc is a no-no, and everything should be in .pdf. (Which, incidentally, I regularly have terrible time when it comes to printing - desperately slow compared to other formats).

Just to add a techie slant on things (apparently is my job). RTF is officially the correct independent format to use but I think all but the most theoretical people accept PDF as a suitable format to use, despite it originally being a Mac specific format.
The problem of requiring Microsoft office isn't just related to volunteers who don't know better unfortunately. I got sent an EMail by Customs & Excise yesterday (I haven't been bad! ) and that had a .DOC attachment - gobsmacked
