Bloom Wood FCC/UK Cup start times
You may care to note that we have withdrawn the original start times for this event, as it has become apparent that not all rules for start times had been followed (you can tell I'm not doing entries this time around). We'll repost the start times as soon as we can.

The start times have been reposted now - a few changes made to meet BOF guidelines.

Bloom Wood UK Cup Start Times
Ok have seen 'new' start times.
I might be a muppet if I am incorrect, but I still dont see how these adjusted start times fit with UK Cup guidelines for the 1st race of season.

Surely for W21E Claire Ward as highest ranked competitor from 2004 series with 6th she should be starting in the bottom group of starters or at least bottom half rather than as 4th starter??
Similarly in M21E Duncan Archer as 4th highest ranked competitor from 04 should be in bottom half of draw.
Quite a few folk who have not figured in UK Cup 04 have been given very good/late start times.
Am not complaining about my start time, just know a few people who are not happy about theirs.
I have emailed the organisers/entries but maybe too late to adjust now.
Any thoughts
Chris

also think the start list is a bit odd still... it reads ok if you just look at the 21s and assume they haven't done any kind of start blocks, but if you include the 20s and 18s you get some people starting at 1 min gaps and others more than 6 min gaps!

I'm not competing this weekend, haven't even actually looked at the start lists either and would normally say "deal with it" to people who moan about start times. Because everyone has to get round the same course and blah blah.
But I think it's pish that the organisers haven't bothered to seed the start lists. It makes a bit of a mockery of it being a "UK Cup" race - supposedly the UK's premier elite series, the UK's answer to Elitserien in Sweden. I thought at least the top 10 from the year before had to be in a special start block. What's the point of having UK Cup if it's basically the same as any old badge event that a fair few "elites" have shown up for? Surely the idea was to make it seem like a big race and prepare Brits to feel some pressure and take on the world. Seeing your rivals in the warm up area gives it that extra buzz which is sometimes difficult to simulate in your head at a colour coded or whatever.

The rules do seem to say that the top 26 need seeding...seeing as I was 27th we could I guess all be within one start block? Dunno what the motivation is but it does seem strange that Karen and Claire and running a hour before Kathy, who I don't think even went to a UK Cup race last year (apologies if you did Kathy!). Still...I'm taking the deal with it attitude as us girls aren't exactly the first ones out in the forest that day.
What Harry says is right though...if it's supposed to be some kind of showcase event then purely for spectator value some decent seeding would have been good? Especially when such great lengths have been taken by TVOc the day after to increase the spectator element, it all seems a little at odds.
Still, deal. I'm pretty sure the best will still win.

Will? We've got proper fire now!

Am totally in agreement that runners have to deal with things out of their control - given Start times
But as Becks & Harry say if its the UK's premier race series then lets get it right.
Fair play to the organiser he has emailed me back & agreed to look again at the start lists, but final decision is going to rest with the controller at this late stage.
Will keep you posted if I get anymore replies.

Ok The Controller has phoned me to say that they considered the query but due to the late notice have decided to go with the start times as currently published.
The advice they received from Elite Competitions group was to seed the start list based on Appendix L guidelines. They did make some adjustments to avoid 1 min gaps within the same classes.

Still think that the info to organisers (as they admitted) could be clearer & more easily available on BOF website.
Anyway should be a good weekend of fast racing.

Fair play, btw i wasn't necessarily having a go at the organisers, i guess it's the responsibility of Elite competition steering group to make sure when they decide what the UK Cup races are to make sure the organisers know what they're supposed to do with it start time wise and stuff.
