how about mirroring the swedish system slightly?
spring-
UK Cup series of 6/7 races with 5 to count
JK - 3 races with sprint on friday evening
Scottish champs
one other weekend (bank holiday weekend with 3 races?)
autumn
British Champs
One race to go

like the sound of that.
3 weekends of quality racing in the first part of the season where there are really strong fields.
WOC/Summer fun in the summer.
Return in the autumn for an end of season thrash up to decide the kings and queens of the forest.
then as harry suggested, a good old back slapping knees up to toast the champs and the chumps and generally spread the love.
makes sense to me.
by the way should this be added to the discussion thread so the BOFsters take note?

People should email their opinions and views to the Elite Compeittions Steering Group - maybe even point them in the direction of this debate.
You can't really expect *everyone* on all the BOF committees to read *everything* that is said on Nopesport!
Just a thought...

If there was an English Champs would you bother with it? Giving an event the status of championship doesn't mean much unless the event really lives up to it. The Scottish Champs benefits from having a fixed place in the calendar, usually quality terrain and a long history. It would be nice to do the same for an English champs.
I like some of the other ideas - splitting the season over spring and autumn appeals but I am not sure it should all be concentrated into megaweekends of 3 or 4 races at a time. A JK consisting of a sprint/middle/long and relay over 4 days would be too much for me - and I am guessing too much for a lot of the people who make up the bulk of the elite field.

3 races in one weekend is enough.
gg - nice idea but they're never going to move BEOC to autumn cos of combining it with BOC.
A UK Cup final weekend wi Sprint/middle/long would be the bomb tho and also mean the chance to double the number of big UK Sprint races (from 1 to 2! hurrah!) it could be combined with some sort of National event maybe.

personally i'd rather have 5/6 weekends of 2 races, perhaps 3 if you include relays, and spread throughout the year. having 1 weekend a month during feb-may, then a couple more in sept-oct would spread it out. and definitely have an even geographic spread - i miss running high profile races in the lakes.
does anyone know a contact for the elite competitions steering group?

The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.
