the scores for the M20's start at 55 even though the scoring information beneath says
Can someone explain this please.
Scoring: Each class will score separately, even if competing on the same course
Can someone explain this please.

I think it's something to do with everyone running in the same class. Same thing happened at Bloom Wood last year... as the leading W18's were faster than the first W20.

Yeah it's because they were beaten by younger people when the class was the same, it's the same as if a 16 ran an 18, they would knock down the points then too
"Being defeated is only a temporary condition; giving up is what makes it permanent."

M/W 18s can count for M/W20 points hence lowering the score of all other M/W20s on that course but the 18 only get the points they gained within the 18s.
Makes it a bit more realistic for picking international teams etc because everyone is in the same boat then, as in the FCC Final

Dave is almost correct. When everyone runs against each other the 18s and 20s are scored separately BUT if a younger runner beats an older one they 'shadow score' and so push the scores for the older ones down which as Dave says is more realistic. The younger ones aren't credited with the 'shadow score' but with the score in their own class and if 16s run too and beat 18s and 20s the people they beat would get even lower scores! These rules have been in use for a number of years - someone is always aggrieved but the older ones know how it works!

It says here on the FCC website what courses you have to run:

I was led to believe that FCC courses were not open to 16's or younger that they had to do a different course at the race. It certainly applied when we held a short /medium race a few years ago.
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

At this weekends events yes, but there is nothing to stop an M/W16 entering M/W18L at the JK for example. They would be used for scoring the 18s but can't compete in the FCC so don't actually get a score.
60 points would have been nice but it's the rules so can't realy argue. Dave, only thing I would say (and not just because it affects me this time, I've thought this for a while), I had a great run on Sat and get 55 points, if I'd had the great run on Sunday instead I'd have got 60 with exactly the same competitors. I had good run in the wrong race.
Yes, 18s and 20s do need comparing for international selection but surely the classes should be scored seperately until the final, even if on the same course.
Anyway, was dead pleased with what I got, just thoughts for future years.

yeah, i was never really sure of the argument about 18s taking points from 20s. i can see the principle of losing points because you were beaten by someone and thats fine, but if you're (say) a mid-pack 20 then you can expect to be beaten by a couple of 18s at races where they are the same class/course/whatever but not when they are different, so it devalues the events where both ages run the same course...
