flights to FCC final
If you've decided to bite the bullit and take a chance on going anyway then I've just noticed flights from Birmingham to Glasgow with Flybe on the weekend of the FCC final at Oban are currently £0.00. Mind you b'ham has exorbitant airport tax and we booked Easyjet from Bristol a while back which worked out cheaper.

Easyjet generally works out cheaper than Flybe if booked in resonable time. The taxes Flybe charge are always much larger than Easyjet for some reason which I don't know.
Wooh Easyjet (plant a tree for every inland flight you take and conteract the damage these planes are doing to the environment).

I want to walk up the side of the mountain, I want to walk down the other side of the mountain. I want to swim in the river, lie in the sun. I want to try being nice to everyone.

To get up to Oban you really need to fly up on the Friday to allow for any delays, even though the races will be in the afternoon.
Allow for a 3 hour drive from any of Prestwick, Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Any of these 3 airports will do to fly in and out of, don't book a flight before 4pm at the earliest on the sunday return.
Look out for these cheap flyers:
Easyjet
Ryaniar
Jet2.com
FlyBMI

When I looked at Flybe from Birmingham and Easyjet from Bristol the prices were exactly the same, to the penny. The only difference was the ratio of airport tax to flight cost. My dad & I are going from Bristol, because its marginally closer to home.

Helen any chance of Your dad and Robs getting together to share a car, not sorted out flights yet but could probably travel from either Br or Bi, to suit time scale
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.
