National X-country championships
Just wondering if any other orienteers are travelling to parliment hill on the 25th for this race. Do other orienteers do x-country as part of training? It seems to me a great way to practice terrain running. So are any of you lot competing and what clubs and age group?

wouldn't have said my xcountry experiences would count as terrain run really, i mean some got *quite* muddy... but then again i only did our local league and a couple for stockport/greater manc when i was a high school, college don't do any really...

Cross Country terrain run; Hah!
At a race I did about a month ago, standing on the start line the marshall starter guy told us proudly that the course had a woodland section. We were to be extra careful because it would be slippery and potentially dangerous what with all the uneven ground and trees and things. Well, it turned out to be a 25m stretch along a lightly leaf covered path.

yup it is indeed. especially when it involves running around a flat field...not even any hills or mud at most of ours, its just a track run without the nice surface...

Matt tell people from your school to bring towels because we got made to run through the stream part of the course yesterday and 3 people lost their shoes in the mud and we couldnt find them again because the mud is like quicksand. and you just get smelly yucky mud water all over you its mingin

Streams are what make races! I say streams, raging rivers are obivously better. Anyone ever done the Dovedale Dash? After about 500m you have to cross a river that is at least thigh high, and 10m wide, sorts the men from the boys does that one. You then do the final 4 and three quarter miles soaked to the skin, its good fun
