Review of 2005
As the year comes to a close, this is just a topic to share your memories and experiences of the past year, both O and non-O related. What will you remember most of 2005 in years to come? What were the highlights/lows of your year? What was your favourite event, and why? etc etc...

Quite frankly the Scottish was easily the best bit of the entire orienteering year!
Having (nearly) all of your mates in one place with the occasional interruption of having to go running was amazing! Also the football competition was fantastic, even if the mighty ASS FC were robbed in the final.
Oh yeh, and G did Tragedy...in fact that was my true highlight of the year.

Peter Palmers For Me, Best HOC Result in years, and apart from food arrangements so well organized. The fancy dress was fun to watch too

O-related: got to be the Peter Palmers for the well-planned courses and exciting area as well as a nice win for NOC
Non-related: The Ashes were just briliant.

the orienteering highlight of the year for me has to be halden, by a mile. 2 weeks in amazing terrain, beautiful scenery, great weather (except one afternoon!) and with great people. but also I really enjoyed O-Ringen and the Scottish (especially the night I spent on the event campsite - must make sure I stay there in future!)
also I really did enjoy the selection race at the Trossachs in March, despite making mistakes galore it was a lovely day and the terrain was brilliant!
downer was probably the british relays, miserable weather so rubbish for spectating, then bringing the team back 8 mins in the lead only to find i had mispunched....i sure did learn my lesson, the hard way!

Highlights of O were probably the summer-Glenmore, Scottish and Norway had so much fun, they were just amazing!
The team events were really good this year as well, events like JIRCS, JHI and Peter Palmer where Wales didn't do too bad in and had some very good individual results! And realays-JK and British relays where ERYRI did well ( thanks to a couple of teams messing up but shhhhh...)
Oh and the 5-a-side football was sooo funny!
Outside O', well it has to be Wales winning Six Nations and getting the Grand Slam that was just AMAZING!
Downside was torch failing at Peter Palmers when Jene had run a really good first leg

band of the year? arrrgh theres too many, this year i have got into music more than ever. some of the top albums of the year for me have been:
Athlete (great album Tourist and brilliant live show too)
Doves (i only got it the other day but its doves at their best. love it)
Editors (i got into them fairly early on, before they were really known, and the debut did not disappoint)
The Arcade Fire (so different, they just have something about them)
British Sea Power (again, they just have something about them. im sure the only band ever to have written a song about an antarctic ice shelf...)
Idlewild (got this for £3, bargain. many were disappointed, but i love it)
Sigur Ros (masterpiece, but they do sound a bit like they are strangling cats at times!)
Bloc Party (well, it did come top of most of the best of 2005 lists...)
Coldplay (yes i know they are so hugely hyped, but personally i loved it. different to their older stuff though, and i love that in a different way)
bands to watch next year:
Battle (the next Bloc Party, but with other influences in there too)
Arctic Monkeys (no need to explain this one, though im not their biggest fan. theyre good but not up to the hype IMO)
Oversol (i love this band)
The Bright Space (a bright prospect, i hope we see more of them)
Your Vegas (recommended to me by Fazza, and I would pass on the recommendation)
and new albums I am eagerly awaiting
Radiohead (no need to explain...)
Muse (they blow me away every time, probably my favourite band altogether, got the live DVD for christmas and its phenominal)
Snow Patrol (im sure it will live up to the standards of their last 3 albums)
Morning Runner (i like what ive heard so far)
sorry for such a long post. its new years eve and im stuck at home...

in orienteerin my highlight was lakeside, which was probs crap 2 the rest of u but i did hardly anything else o wise last year, nd i 4rt the coachin nd stuff helped me a lot.
outside o the ashes wer definately the best, went 2 watch trent bridge, one of the best days of my life.
best bands, im huge oasis fan nd they keep pumpin out classics. Also stereophonics released anuva gr8 album. As 4 ova bands none ave really appealed 2 me 2 much, apart frm razorlight and gorrilaz. Not in2 ne of that emo crap lol.
