Just found out my exam dates for the summer - I've got 4 over the two days after JIRC - which basically means I can't run the JIRCs.
Surely it couldn't have been any harder to organise the event one week later (first weekend in July as opposed to last in June) so that it was outside the exam period???
It's a major junior competition so exam periods should be considered when planning - this affecting other people

the jirc's have always been organised over the last weekend in june. if the exam dates have changed, as seems to be the trend, then perhaps it is worthwhile letting your squad coaches and the fixtures convenors aware of this.
you have to bear in mind that the people who set the dates maybe don't have children of exam age so arn't aware of the problem.
another factor to consider would be the consequences of moving it a week later: i know this is usually into the Scottish Schools summer holidays which could cause some problems.
it would be interesting to hear how many people this affects!

I thought last year was the first time it was before the end of the exams. My bro had to miss it (his last one) and he'd done everyone since he was 11.
I laugh in the face of danger..... then I run and hide until it goes away.

i mentioed it to the NW coordinator- she said it had been brought up at squad coach meetings but that most coaches seemed to think that it was fine having it in the exam period since its "fair" for all squads.
it might be since it stops some people from every squad going but it lowers the class of competition if people can't compete - and some regions may have members who aren't at 6th form so this won't affect them
Scot holidays - won't holidays be a good time to have it??
I think it is only A2 levels affected which stops M/W18s competing in their last year

cept the fact that im a.s n im messes with my exams...i mean i probably would go...but while there are local events i may as well just go to them...but means that smaller clubs like us only have 1 counter now in 18's...maybe none if clair (same year as me) also doesnt run due to exams...so wales is def badly affected as our 18 lads arent running cos of exmas as well....so we wont do that well this year cos our relays will suffer as good 16's will need to run up...leaving a weaker 16 leg

I've only got one exam after JIRCs and its on the Wednesday so I'll still be going. It did not affect me for GCSEs last year but I can see that if I had exams on Monday why I might not want to go- having said that I generally sort school out around whatever else I want to do so I may have gone anyway.
Having it in the Holidays causes problems if the scotish want to go away!

I know it affected certain AS students last year, as our team was even smaller than it should have been due to a late Physics exam.
Gladly, my last exam this year is on the 24th so I'll make it.
We may still have fewer numbers due to a late Sociology exam though, but hopefully not.

I want to walk up the side of the mountain, I want to walk down the other side of the mountain. I want to swim in the river, lie in the sun. I want to try being nice to everyone.

if the scots couldn't go in july due to hols then it's their choice but exam dates are a bit more fixed.
I've got physics monday, two chemistry and a maths on tuesday.
CHS - I'd go if I only had the one exam but 4 would be pushing it. It's not as important for you in lower sixth, you've got chance to retake if needed.
Hopefully NW won't be too affected though since I'm the only M18 in upper sixth - the rest are y12 (or y11 for that stallion dave schorah ) but this will affect the smaller squads quite a bit i'd think - as jene's already mentioned.
