Control 228 at Trossachs
2 events (recalling the last time I went there) and twice Ive been convinced I was in the right place on that damn boulder! Did anyone else have trouble with that one - its the huge boulder to the north of the green. It seemed a bit low down than the map suggested as my bearing took me directly to the grassy boulder above it. Just wondering if its just my shoddy navigation?

I lost nearly 2 minutes there aswell Rhys, same problem as you, was at the other boulder which seemed much larger even although it is supposed to be on a hill! Don't worry that means it can't be your navigation, lets get a re-match!!!!

Aye, I was the same actually, but don't really want to blame the course/map too much, as I was hardly clean on a single control! I hit the grassy bouldery thing too. The big boulder did seem quite low, although it definately was a big beast of a boulder, no mistaking that. The other grassy thing should have been on the map as a dot knoll i reckon as it was really obvious. It threw me a bit because it wasn't on the map.

228 was definitely in the wrong place. It was on a mega boulder but it was not the right boulder. I'm sure that the grassy boulder was the right one although it was not that big. I spanked the grassy one, then ran around a bit and then decided to take a bearing from a boulder in the marsh next to the stream. I was heading straight back to the grassy boulder but then looked down the slope and saw the control.

my (dodgy) bearing took me to the grassy boulder aswell and i was lucky enough to just see someone dissapear behind the mega boulder.if you look at winsplits it shows up that there might have been something dodgy with the control cos theres that many mistakes.
definetly shouldn't be a re-match though!

Im relieved to hear I wasn't the only one who messed that up, and i dont want to blame it on the map either as i was having a pants run anyways... That control did finish off my whole faith in orienteering tho... it did feel a bit too low as well, but then again the big mossy one (i hit that first too!) was mebbe to close to the green?
