This run in comp sounds good bedders. Count me in.
However I have two suggestions:
- Because people won't be going to every race, some sort of points system would be better than aggregate times.
- I see no reason, given that this is the 'FCC run-in comp', why the first race at Newbury should not also be included; that's only fair to those who ran that one and may not run later races.

K firstly...it is a points system. Read the rules on the front page Matt!!
Secondly, I'm not sure about the using the first race, especially as not everyone has entered yet, and therefore perhaps not. Its up to everyone else really, do you want to use the first FCC race? Let the people have their say!

Oh, my bad
... only read part of the thread, sorry.
And re: the first race; I think it's only fair to include it considering that most people can only get to some of the races. If this run-in comp is to be as fair as the actual fcc comp it must surely include the same range of races. If not I suggest you might find you have a number of upset southerners.

Not sure about including the first race - people may not have been bothering on the run-in (and I didn't run so I might be slightly biased!!)
Just a suggestion, would it be better using a points system like the FCC one where it is slightly biased towards people at the top? ie 60, 55, 51, 48, 46, 45, 44, 43 etc (i think thats right, its certainly something like that). Therefore if you have a really good run-in and win, then you get more of an advantage than just one point...if you're in the pack it isnt as rewarding.

yeah but it's not fair then if you win by miles and get the same points as someone who wins by a second, it'll be too complicated if we try and suit everyone so you may as well leave it as it is.
I would say as it is an FCC racey thing then you may as well include the first race, and i'm not saying that because i had a good run there, as anyone who saw me knows

That seems like a good idea about the FCC scoring system Helen. Might need some careful thought about what happens in the event of ties.
And on the first event:
I simply refuse to believe that sprint run-in specialists of the calibre we have in this competition would have failed to strive for sprint perfection in this first race, as they will no doubt do in subsequent races. A true sprint champion surely would not have plodded in at a National and FCC race.

I'm not changing the scoring system so there, Lizi is right, the likelihood is people will not win by very much so giving them a big advantage for winning by 1 second is not fair!
And as for adding the first race, it won't happen until after the second and third anyway, because the closing date is the day before the welsh FCC weekend. So even if we do...it wont be done until then! I could always bring forward the closing date, but that is harsh...well I dunno.

Helen's suggested system is the one used for the FCC races. Are you saying they're not fair? The whole point is that the better you do the better score you get, disproportionately so. But Liz may have a point about it being complicated.
More importantly, Liz is right about including the first race. I agree you can't actually do the scores for it yet Bedders cos you don't know who's entered. But you can still say for definite that the scores will be included in the FCC run-in competition.

I have made an executive decision, the first race wont be added. It just isn't, it's like doing a badge event and afterwards being told its an FCC race, just not happening I'm afraid. Points system is staying the same...in fact nothing has changed from the original rules posted on the front page.
