Headtorch
I'm replacing a Tiga SL -any recommendations for an 'off the shelf' headtorch for orienteering that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Needs to last a minimum of 2hrs as I am rather slow....

Re: Headtorch
What's your budget?
220 lumens for <£20 - look here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ultrafire-220-Lum ... m153.l1262
My son uses one of these and it's bright - brighter than anything similar that you can get in this country. As a comparison it completely outshines a Petzl Myo XP and should outshine the new Petzl RXP that costs a whole lot more.
For something better, look at the Headtorch at the bottom of the page here:

I use one of these - slightly modified using the 1.2m cable also available from AyUp to mount the battery on my belt in a cheap Hama DF15 compact camera case that I bought for <£2 from 7dayshop.com. Headlight is fantastic - 320 lumens - and weighs next to nothing.
I don't know of anything lighter and you'd have to pay a lot more to get anything brighter. Get the Intermediate beam. Use the 3hr battery if it will be mounted on the headband or the 6hr battery if you'll carry it anywhere else.

320 lumens for under £130 .... Many thanks - now I just need to decide between hot pink and champagne.

Re: Headtorch
Just thought I would post this link...

I bought one of these last year. The focal point is quite tight and the build quality and design are not great but the LED strength is good. I used it for all my night running last year and bought two more as spares. Well at $16 you can't complain.
The beam shone around 100 metres on dark open moorland for me.
Also I am thinking of trying this one that claims to be 900 Lumens for $77. I'll let you know if I do.

Re: Headtorch
I recently bought one of these

Really great product, more than enough to train in the dark. Both the lamp and battery are quite lightweight. It also comes with fittings for bike use, which is really useful for me as I do the odd MTBO.
Good service - it arrived next day
