Does anybody have any experience of using in-car satellite navigation systems for finding orienteering events? I'm thinking about getting one, but there's a lot of choice, and I don't know much about the subject.
One thing I notice is that their publicity often talks about being able to type in a postcode. Fine if you are navigating to an address, but usually for orienteering I would want to input an OS grid reference. Do Satnavs accept grid references as destinations? Or alternatively latitude and longitude - I know how to get them from a grid reference using Multimap online?
All advice gratefully received.

Re: SATNAV
Using a postcode is an easy way of telling the SatNav where you want to go, but I'm sure you can also just point on a map to where the destination is. So for an orienteering event you'd put the grid reference into Multimap, see where the event is (e.g. 4 miles south of Sheffield on the A625), jump in your car, and point to the same spot on the SatNav map.
It requires map memory - which Joe Public can't manage, but no doubt you can!

I have a Tom Tom Go 300 and am able to input a destination as longitude and latitude. To get this I just input the event grid ref into multimap .
