ok - my feet are still sore from Sunday (big blisters under big toes and next to balls of feet, as I get nearly every classic race in warm weather).
does soaking feet in tea, using white spirit, etc., really work to stop blisters, or is it just quackery?

how's about running slower, i've never heard many complaints from people near the bottom of results
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

I can safely say running slower doesn't help - it's worse cos you're out for longer.
I find vaseline works mostly but in real hot stuff I put ankle tape around the big toe, under the foot where the balls of the toes are and round the heel. Then vas over the tape.

The chiropodist who attends to young Neville's feet says that surgical spirit is very good - adolescent boys and young men have very delicate skin on their feet (don't know about else where) due to something hormonal. He says a good swash with ss toughens the skin and kills bacteria making infections less likely - particularly useful round the toenails where germs and broken skin go hand in hand (what an unpleasant picture that conjures up )

Before Duke of Edinburgh expeditions we were told to soak our feet in surgical spirit. Ten minutes every evening for two or three weeks. Seemed to work for me...
The more I think, the more confused I get...

I'm really prone to blisters but often more so when it's soaking wet (or hot and dry which means sweaty) coz my feet slip more in my shoes
compeed are good with lots of tape round them as they fall off easily
I'll have to try surgical spirit

blisters
Best thing for blisters is to coat your feet with pure lanolin then carefully put your sock over your foot without wiping it off. Vaseline gave me blisters but I've raced 100 miles (once) and 100km several times non stop without any problems using lanolin.
The lanolin is not that easy to get hold of, however you can get it direct from producers online
or NK Chemicals Ltd 01924 444849 (ask for Martin Gunson)
you ask for anhydrous lanolin
Hope this helps
