The twins have said they want gaitors for orienteering, as they are progressing through courses, which are becoming more brambly etc. My husbands wants to get some from tesco's, but I have told him they are not suitable - because they are heavy and will slow them down.
Has anyone any advice on what to choose?

Re: Gaitors
Not sure that want any 'gaitors around me when I'm orienteering; their teeth are too sharp.
We've been using Trimtex gaiters but my daughter has recently got some ISC ones which seem a lot better.

Have a look at
http://www.compasspoint-online.co.uk/ac ... iters.html
or Ultrasport web-site http://www.ultrasport.co.uk
This will give you an idea as to what is available (and costs).

Re: Gaitors
NFK, just in case you don't realise, orienteering gaiters have foam covering the shin, normal walking gaiters don't. Walking gaiters normally partly cover the shoe (keeping laces clean, stopping mud going up the trouser leg). Whilst orienteering gaiters do some of these I don't think that is primarily what they are for - I have had a lot less scratches on my lower legs since having O-gaiters and feel more comfortable running through 'sharp' terrain than I did previously.
Tesco walking gaiters would probably just fall down the leg whist running, possibly rip and just get in the way?
FYI I use ARIES PRO GAITERS. Of the two that Ultrasport stocked I preferred them but couldn't say why.

Leanne - a lot of the teenagers (all my kids) favour the re-inforced long socks (they like o wear them with below the knee cut off trousers) they are quite a bit cheaper and although they do not offer as much protection as the gaiters they are mostly okay.
