mate iain donnan, sponsered by aberdeen running shop, got a free pair from them....he says they are really good shoes for training in, but wouldn't race in them, except for an uphill only race. He said they have not much grip coming down hill, but very comfy shoe..
He also got a free pair of Swoops and said there the worst shoes he has had...but thats a different matter.

Inov8 Mudroc
I had a pair free to test - here is my report....
JD
Inov 8 shoe report.
Jon Duncan. British orienteering team. English mountain running team 2002.
Usage.
Several training runs on local hills. Mainly small paths. Gravel, peat, pebbles underfoot. Little use off-paths, but some crossing heather. Steep ascents & descents. Some ‘boulder-hopping’ on granite boulders.
Impresions.
Light & comfortable shoe with strong looking rand and firm but cushioned sole. A good fit. Possibly too spacious at the toe? Also quite a wide fit, despite the appearance. I have moderately wide feet, yet have the lacing drawn almost together. Others may not be able to lace them firmly enough.
Sole.
Looks very chunky. Actually quite light. Rubber compound appears to be good in that it is quite ‘grippy’ on wet rock. An area where Walsh soles are still the market leader, but Addias ‘Swoop’ are slippy here. Square-ness of studs will loose performance compared to Walsh pointed studs.
Heel looks a bit rounded which worries people like me who have dodgy ankles.
Feel.
Feel good and snug. Light and strong with a reasonable grip. Feel quite ‘fast’ when wearing them.
Performance.
I tested these in possibly the harshest way possible for a pair of fell shoes – the Ben Nevis Hill race. I was 3rd in 90.45 mins.
They felt good and gave me good grip throughout. My foot felt secure in the shoe. (I had my ankles taped anyway).
I did not slip on the tricky descent that includes rock, scree, grass & gravel. So the shoes must have been performing. They felt light at the end when the legs had gone and there was a mile of road to go before the finish.
I noticed later that I had ripped one of the studs out. It was a clean rip from the sole. So the compound needs to be stronger.
The harder rand had taken some abuse from the scree, but there were only minor scuffs here.
Rating.
I would score them as 7.5/10 in relation to all fell shoes I have tried. This is below the ‘old’ Walsh, ahead of the ‘new’ Walsh and ahead of the Swoop. A good start!

The innov8's are crap.
they are good for going up hill. but coming down there a load of muffs....
They gave me blisters and sore feet.
At £60 they are a rip off,. not worth a muff.
As for swoops there even muffier....
Original blue and yellow walsh's are the best.
Long live the fairy muff.
JUST MUFF IT!!!!

morning iain, welcome to nopesport!
i agree the swoops arn't great but i dont have a great deal of choice when it comes to o shoes.... not many companies cater for size 13 with ridiculously shaped feet, i think it may be time to set up nopeshoes.com and make my own, im thinking swoop uppers with razor sharp mesh over the toes, a solid toe plate from track spikes and heels with support by asics and grip by walsh. styling by ralph lauren and then srayed silver with a red [nope] the full length of each side. mmm mmm mmm time to bastardise my old shoe cupboard methinks then get those bad boys out at the snatch club.
possibly even have a little box on the side for writing results in alla the nike mayfly, as they will only last about one race....
