Finally used a pair in anger on Saturday at Carnethy
They were excellent !
I first looked at them back at the end of summer cos the ad. is cool, but was not convinced when I got my hands on a pair. I was a bit put off by the heel which seemed highish compared to Walsh racers and narrowish too, and has an unusual curve to the sole.
I decided to buy a pair in the new year and they've had 3 outings now.
First was hill reps in Glen Tress, where they were fine, I slipped once or twice but that was moss coming off the surface, the shoes were shearing it off, kind of too good !?!?
Second was a muddy, hilly cross country course in Gala - Good for this.
Thirdly the true test - Carnethy !
They gripped well on the climbs, mossy, grassy and heathery
They contoured extremely well on rough deep heather, on grass and slippy muddy paths
And finally descending - outstanding, positive on the steep decent off the Kips. On the drop into the Howe they gave the best grip I've found on this too steep and always slippery slope.
Then came the best bit - they slipped !
but they didn't skate away from underneath and dump me on my arse, they gave a short, firm, controlled slide, then they did it again ! I was amazed, suddenly I had real confidence in my desceding. (I thought I was just getting old but now I'm going to blame my old fell shoes)
This controlled slip happened a couple more times off Carnethy where I was pushing them harder having gained confidence in them.
So I'm a total convert.
plus the black and brown ones look great.
The only outstanding test is on wet rock

I was given a pair of the MudRocs to play around with and overall I reckon there alright. Compared to the grip of new Walsh's I don't think they are as good. Haven't experienced the studs falling off yet, although all the lads I know who have had them for awhile have lost a few.
Another new shoe that has recently appeared on the scene is the Mountain Bear (bit of a cheesy name). Really good. I'll stick my neck out and say better than the mighty Walsh...

I know this is an old thread, but its very relevant to me at the mo.
My podiatrist reckons my sore knee is a pounding injury and has taken an exception to my Swoops so he thinks I need something with a bit more cushioning, esp under the forefoot.
I read this thread and did a bit of other research which suggested that the Innov8 might be just the comfy shoe for me - not the Mudroc mind, but the Terroc trail shoes. So I visited Up and Running here in Brum to sample a pair and very comfy they are. However, the uppers seem to be a common material across the range and seem very flimsy.
The uppers didn't get much of a mention in the review above and my impression on feeling them is that they would be torn to shreds by their first encounter with brambles or brashings. Has anyone got anything to report on this?
If not Innov8s, does anyone have any other advice on a pair of shoes with reasonable grip (I'm a wuss so I don't need anything too aggressive) and plenty of cushioning? Someone mentioned Salomons - but they look a bit too much like a walking shoe - any comments?
PS I already wear gel heel inserts in my Swoops!

I also have a dilemma!
Tried the new style Swoops, in bright orange, but they have taken away the old padding where the adidas 3 stripes are on the inside, and this has caused problems even when jogging round "Running Fox" in Loughborough...
Adidas claim that they removed the inner padding because it increases the support...but i say it just annoys my foot and would probably cause a blister on a long run.
Anyway, that out the way, does anyone know what the cheapest, yet best shoe is out at the moment without dobs? Or will i buy some "dobless" VJ's or some other make?
Does anyone else have this problem in Swoops, does it cause problems?
Cheers

i thought that padding was pretty poor anyway, ive had a couple of pairs where that has been the first bit to go. the new swoops have a metal gauze bit round there now which seems much tougher: only drawback is that your feet get wet in the smallest of puddles... not nice, esp when the puddles were frozen like yesterday!
