Special socks
Having run in a particularly grotty forest full of brambles yesterday, does anyone know of any good combinations to stop thorns going in your feet. Yet again i got a thorn wedged in my toe which meant i spent a couple of minutes trying to get it out with my nail-bitten fingers - not an easy task!
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

see i reckon that said thorn was already in thy socks, so best way to prevent this is wash them.... nthe right way round. nothing worse than having seemingly clean socks, only to turn them outside out to find its full of dry forest crap.
bang your shoes out before can help
dont run in minging forests can help
go barefoot for years and years until your skin is like an aligators can help

yeah, cheers mark. i hope you're not implying that i never do any washing! but i might take your advice and start running around bare foot again - i'm gonna be as fit as that caveman from the volvic advert, with feet as hard as rock.

Probably weigh as much too. - Not too good,
Think that there may well be nothing you can do about the pesky thorns.

yes but there's degrees of trashedness:
k120s <3 months (not sure exactly what pyrat has been doing but anyway)
recent integrators <6 months
old school integrators >18 months

I think it's luck how shoes get trashed or not. I've had one pair of Walshes last 18 months and another pair 2 runs. Much the same with trousers, socks, tops, women.

it also depends on where you live and how much you use your shoes... we cant just measure the time they last in months ffrom purchase, it shoudl be done on terrain time surely. and then there are also different types of terrain. K100s (my favourite shoe) would last years in the new forest, but bring em over to stoney sweden and they start to suffer structural damage, and the spikes dont like the stones either.
get a mayfly style life chart going, see how long they really last.
