Views on Silva K100 O-Shoes

to kick off this board can anyone give me their views on the K100's as I'm fed up with the ol vj's falling to bits within a few months.
although the chances of me wearing them for a while are slim...

There a very smart looking shoe and apparently very comfortable but do not last long at all. A friend of mine had them from the start of the summer and after a week of orienteering in norway (World vets) followed by the o'ringen they were falling apart by the scottish 6 day. They were given a good bashing but they should last longer than that! The vj integrators are the best shoe i've had. Sounds like silva won't solve your problems of falling apart shoes!

I agree, the integrators are a great shoe, but dont last as long as they used to. My current pair have lasted six months constant usage, but now have no dobs left and little studdage.

If they could improve the quality of their sole i think they would own the o shoe market.

The best shoe is the one that fits best.... each individual has a differant shaped foot & therefore each foot will suit differant shoes. VJ, Jalas & Olway are made in Finland & are generally made from the same basic last (Olway was designed by brother of original VJ designer I think and Jalas now own Olway). I don't think Silva shoes are made in Scandinavia... I have always found Silva to be have much more space in the toe box and a stiffer, less flexible sole unit....

Shoes lasting a long time is a problem for the manufacturers... reduces sales volume. I remember many moons ago when I did some work involving Karhu running shoes from finland making the comment that the shoes were too durable & that they should be designed NOT to last as long... said the same to Jalas about the original pink/yellow Champion....

I got a pair of K100s in the summer, so they did 8 weeks on orienteering in tough terrain, and now they've been abused in sweden for 4 months. And they ares howing no signs of real damage. Im not sure what they outside material is, some kind of mixture of Kevlar and Kpryptonite, buts its very strong. I find them very comfortable too. I have been using intergraters for ages, maybe 4 or 5 pairs one after the other, but i always found they would get holes in the same places, and the upper material part of the shoe would shift out to the side from the sole; might be to do with my running style, not sure. The dobs on intergraters have a habbit of getting mashed aswell i found. Yet the K100s are fine after a lot of rocky terrain.
Just find a show that you like and get it, after a few paris your will have a new favourite...

Some advice from a swede with bad heels:

I bought a pair of K100s last spring and immidiately got pain in my heels from the stiff back part of the shoes. The shoes are very light and thin but they are also hard on your feet. The solution for me was switching to Jalas, which have lots of cushioning around the heel part, but still I had pains on and off the whole year even after I stopped using the K100s.

If you already have problems with your heels or achilles tendons or the shoe doesn't fit perfectly when you try it on, go for another brand. Of course this was last years model, maybe they put more cushioning around the heels this year but I wouldn't count on it.

Do not go around buying the Silva K40 they cost around £40. The shoes are all right but the tongue slips down to the side of your foot when you're running and it really annoys you. I would spend about 20 quid more on a good pair of Falcons, they must be better quality.
As far as those K100's go, they look fairly good quality so it's a pity that they are falling apart after such a short time. Do you think that all K100's are like that, or is it just an anomaly manufacturing fault???

bad batch i think, as i said mine have survived a lot of harcore orienteering. They have brought out an updated version of the shoe though, different soles, and i guess they made the estonian orphans work a bit harder on the stitching.

VJ have just bought a really good new shoe though, very light weght
