Just got a date for an introductory session at a country park where I work part time - we have a permanent yellow course and a training area course, with map for each. The target group is adult women, over 16 years, as several female friends, eg canoe club members, have asked about a course, and several women, including grandparents, have seen our family orienteering days in action, and felt they couldn't participate, despite out assurances they could. Also, in the past 6 months, I introduced 2 female work colleagues to the sport - in each case, we went round as a trip with their male partner, although now feel able to tackle course alone, which is a good end point. We have decided on a Saturday at the beginning of Feb 08, to build on New Year's resolutions to try something new / get more active etc, and also so that participants can join in summer SMILE and evening events. Previously, at the same site, I have run an introductory session and series of 4 sessions for users and staff of mental health services, which went better than I could have predicted.
Does anyone have any experience of similar courses and can offer any tips?
