Interesting read. The treadmill in the garage is interesting. As a fell runner he had the reputation of being a great decender, which too some extent eneded up counting against him with regard to team selection....
I always wished I had seen his decent when he set the record for Pen-y-Fan, unfurtunatly I had bearly reached the top as he finished. His decent was somthing like 7.5 mins for a 2000 foot drop in about a mile and half. The top section of which is realy steep grassy stuff with the odd rock then there is a gently down though tussocks bit and finaly some flat out field work to the finish line. The next best time was over a minute slower, and this was a British champs field so some good decenders in it.
