anyone know of anything going on monday to thursday? Had a wee look around but havent found anything but maybe not looking in the right places.
What about permanent courses or mapped areas that are ok to visit? anywhere relevant for british sprints available? Anyone able to furnish me with some maps or point me in the direction of getting some?

Brooner, if you can travel a little bit there are short races on Tuesday night near Oxford(see TVOC website, mass start 7.30pm) and Wednesday night near High Wycombe (see BKO website).
(or try http://www.geocities.com/tvoc_summer/, which has details)
The Tuesday one is an OUOC event I think so they may be able to help if you can get to Oxford - http://www.oxfordtube.com/ may be cheaper than the train.

I can recommend the BKO Summer short race at Bloom Wood.
Its a lovely little wood, was a 2 minute run from my old house, I used to run there all the time.
And also the 3 Horseshoes Pub is just down the road and they do good food!
But its a bit of a treck from London, could get the train to High Wycombe from Marylebone station then the 31 bus from the bus station.
Otherwise Wendover Woods, Whippendell Woods and Star Posts all have permanent courses and are near train stations from london, but you'd probably have to have a full day to make a trip out worth it. See TVOC's website: http://www.tvoc.org.uk/info/permanentcourses

Hmmm Friday afternoon - I could do some work or I could look for orienteering events near London next week.
You could try Chigwell OCs evening training event at Hainault Forest, only a mile or so from the Central Line, on Wednesday 17th

Probably not as good as the Bloom Wood race but a bit more accessible

You can always try dragging my unfit carcase up and down the riverbank during a lunchtime, if you're really desparate for a run!!
You can bring an old map of the trossachs to read whilst weaving in and out of the tourists
