My mum is a W55 who had a hip replacement operation about 6 months ago and is trying to get back to orienteering. She's been round orange courses but tends to struggle with stiles and ditches.
She'd really like to talk to another orienteer who's been through the same Op to get some advice about what she can expect in terms of recovery time to get back to at least L Green!
Please PM me with any contacts
Thanks

Orienteering after a new hip
I'm no longer involved in orthopaedics, but my suggestion would be to ask a physio - in my experience, the health professional most likely to get a perosn bac kt othe physical activity level they seek, rather than just tell them not to do it! Might be worth paying for a visit to a private physiotherapist specialising in sports injuries / orthopaedics.

I have had a replacement hip for nearly 10 years. Still performing creditably at M60S. Everyone is different so advice is not always appropriate. Happy to pass on my experiences if you let me have an email address but not really for general publication.
