road running
I have been training with a local running group for a couple of months running on roads. I have recently hurt my knee while doing so and have been advised by people i run with that my trainers (addidas rx reponse terrains) arte to blame as they are trail trainers though they have been fine up until now. I have heard people say that ypoung people shouldn't run on roads while they are still growing. Has anyone any sensible advise (preferably someone with a medical background to do with the joints thing). wiull getting better trainers help or is running on roads a bad idea at this age (15)

I would reccomend getting a proper pair of well cushioned high mileage road shoes....although I'm sure i said that to you a while ago!

Good trainers are a must. Make sure you go to a proper running sports shop where they know what they are talking about. Different shoeas are designed for different feet, so if you overpronate one typr of shoe will be good, but the same shoe will be rubbish if you have neutral feet. You'll probably pay a bit more for shoes in a specialist shop but worth every penny for the advicce they give you.
Don't think there is anything too bad about running on roads at your age. Try not to do too much road running. The club sessions (twice a week?) should be ok, but then stay off the roads for the rest of your running if you can.

"hurt my knee"
not exactly clear whats going on there.
front and below the knee ?
at your age depending what exactly the pain is it may well be growing pains.
don't go increasing your training.
don't go slamming down hills hard.

I've just learned I've got ostiarthriitis in both knees & ankles..... too much road running as a youth can't of helped... we were running 80 plus on roads pw at schools as 15 / 16 year olds.... no physio back up in the 70's... just run more miles:)
What you do in your youth catches up with you later:)

road running
ideally we would all like to have that kind of training available but when you live out of town where there is no street lighting then joining a road running club is easier than spending over 150 quid on a decent headtorch. anyway the problem is solved thanks to a pair of mizuno wave riders courtesy of run 4 it on lothian road. thanks for the advise anyway
