have now done three sessions. The kids turned out to be Yr 5/6 much easier to deal with. Started with 12 now down to 8 who are committed.
Got Trebor to map the grounds, and after an intro session took them out with map but no legend and got them to work out the legend with the hope it might sink in better. Then produced control cards and got them to punch at nine controls round the field. This week did the 9 cones spelling a word and a simple maths calc. This went down really well but then I'd planned 3 courses and was able to let them use e-punching. This was a great hit, they are all sold on electronic fingers!! Some more interested in the chip I think. One lad managed to punch 18 controls on his 9 control course, he came back and said he'd not finished and was confused. In fact there were only 15 controls and he'd collected all but the first on his course. Fortunately when he tried a second course he got the map orientation bit and got it right.
Even better the kids all vounteered to collect the controls in and tidy up for me.
