Theres nothing trivial about the speed of a 6 tonne chicken.
Nor is it humourous, as you will find out next time you disturb one running through the forest!!

Ah so that's why there was an enormous chicken doing the pubcrawl last year... And there was me thinking it was just a twenty foot fancy dress costume, turns out it must have been doing a test run...

Portsmouth Poly is looking for samples into a research based on internet forums. They are looking for banterless punters who insist on writing in the banter section.
I think this is the biggest "no jobbie sherlock" headline I have ever seen.

What are you talking about!?!?! I think that getting funding to drink beer all day and take a couple of videos is the sign of genius!
Our group carried out preliminary experiments at a local pub a few years ago, but the results proved inconclusive

ok lets see now.
The government is proposing closing local A&E departments so that patients will have to travel further to regional super A&E centres. This is justified by claiming that better care is available at the super A&E centres (more expert doctors, more flashy equipment) so the chances of survival are higher. The research is looking at whether or not this claim is true.
What the research found is that for some types of patients (heart and trauma patients - I guess trauma means car crash victims and similar) then the chances of survival are increased by travelling to a regional centre even if that means travelling further. For other types of patients (notably those with breathing difficulties) the distance travelled was much more significant and travelling further greatly increased the risk of dying.
Overall, in conclusion, travelling further to a super A&E centre is justified in some cases but if it is forced on ALL cases (by closing local A&E departments) then overall there will be more deaths.
Incidentally, the government counters this research by stating that it is out of date and irrelevant, that paramedic ambulance care has greatly improved, and that statistics are lies.
All of which sounds like perfectly reasonable research to me. The BBC version of the story puts all this a bit more clearly than the Yahoo version
