You know how when you type "sh*t" it's auto-corrected to be "jobbie" and "d*bber" is not allowed either, please can Pyrat set up a rule that auto-deletes any posting that whinges about Emit?
I am sick to death of reading threads that suddenly are hijacked by some donkey whinging about how much they hate Emit and love SI.

Good idea Porky - people have very short memories - no-one has reminded those whinging about the delay in the junior results on Day 1 that at the JK in Henley no-one knew who had won the junior classes until the relay day.
We could be on our way to totally hands-free punching at any event in a few years time - how cool would that be?

Yep short memories indeed. Although I must admit I was surprised by the number is issues with emit over the JK weekend (only 3rd hand, I couldn't be there for what sounded like a stunning weekend). However, they are certainly no more than all the moans about SI in the past, which despite being most people's preferred system (?) still has far more failures.
Like most IT related equipment I've always assumed that the vast majority of problems are software and/or human error related anyway. There is probably nothing intrinsically wrong with either system, although both have pros/cons and strengths/weaknesses from the punter's perspective.
I've just done 2 nights of old style pin punch orienteering, and although both were great events I do miss the instant results, splits and lack of fiddling with cards and dangling punches. At least one of the event organisers won't even get round to checking the cards and working out the times until this evening either. You can't expect the earth for 60pence and £1 a run, but remember the days of waiting 2 weeks for the results for every event? Anyone want to volunteer to check wet and muddy control cards for an event the size of JK?

funny you should mention that actually, i was at the front of the queue when the server crashed last saturday and that's exactly what someone working on download said: 'At least we're not checking pin-punches over and over again',while holding up an imaginary card to the light
Luckily I only started orienteering after SI/Emit was in general use at large events...

whats a pin-punch?
is that like one of those magical things - a "ball-point pen"
i have not been to a museum recently - have never seen either of these mystical items.
does anyone know if the Royal Museum of Scotland has them - might visit to see what the fuss is all about.

emit is really jobby
Understandable point of view as you mp on the relay. I still have a few blank backup cards, I'll send you one so that next time your card doesn't have 2 or 3 days of punches all mixed together.......

apparently having proof you've been to the control isn't enough anymore. you have to prove you've been to the control AND not have used the same card the previous day, even if the control in question wasn't used on your course the previous day. are there any rules about that?
