so, this is on saturday. i was wondering if any other orienteers have signed up for the fun? (noticing the advert on nopesport although thats not why i knew about it/entered it).
i'm a bit anxious- my knee is still injured from the CSC, so training has ceased, but 10km ish shouldn't be a problem, should it...?
it also states that the fashion police won't be there, and they encourage foolish attire. i'm planning to just wear some o kit as i reckon that'll fit the bill... whats anyone else got planned?

Having spent the weekend at Traquair house, basking in the sunshine that scotland always offers, helping at the Polaris mountain bike race, i have to say that next weekend will be a corker.
sadly i can't make it, but i have been privvy to a few course details, and it looks wicked.
have a great time James, and i look forward to hearing how it was for you.

well, a fun experience!
the location was indeed amazing, the whole event helped along by good weather. the race was quite a surreal experience, with some fun obstacles and plenty of river running. quite a few bad(ish) points though.
organisation lacked a bit. an 'o' style final details would have been great instead a lot of people were wandering around not knowing the deal. for example i never had a hot shower as i couldn't find them. (wasn't too bothered).
the obstacles were ok, but one main skimp was on the 'running north shore'. this was quite basic and just involved stepping across some platforms and then doing 5 log walks. i was envisaging flowing, continuous raised sections.
the souvenir was supposedly a tankard but was actually a bog standard medal on a ribbon effort.
i managed to lose the trail, as we were following the people in front and they followed some tapes the wrong way round a loop. fairly stupid of all of us but still. it was down to poor marking and no marshall in a critical position. (it was dark by this point).
a lot of stuff which sounded like it would be free was in fact not. activities in the 'event village' all cost money.
a lot of whinging there but it was £21 pounds entry, which i think makes orienteering better value for money! (with regards to other threads on here). the main save was that wilfs was there, there was a beer tent and camping/parking was free.
oh, i came 102nd out of 400 ish in 2hrs 9mins. winner did 1hr 27mins. (this was a 10km race...). as an aside, i think any one of the good-ish runners in the orienteering world could have won the event. i made a 15 minute error, which also compounded as we were back getting stuck behind slower runners (queing for obstacles etc.). i also ran in baggy trousers tucked into bramble bashers and a tweed jacket. (winners were boring and wore 'running kit').
