I spent to most of the day yeasterday on Site nearly Leicester where there was about an 1.5inch of snow, drove back to the office in Nottingham about 30 north and there was nothing. Got home in near Mansfield yesterday evening around 15 miles north of Nottingham and there was around 2.5 inch!

Got post this photo of the newly arrived Highland cattle at Wandlebury Country Park, just outside Cambridge. They arrived on 25th Jan for a 3 month trial, but may stay permanently. 1 bull, 1 mother & calf, 3 other females, who might be pregnant.

This evenings bucket load 5inches now lies on the grass in our garden; getting home this evening was an absolute nightmare. Cars were going down many of the hills sideways while others were stranded at the side of the road because they can't get up the hills, its just starting to ease off now but looks pretty impressive out side.

Hills in Nottinghamshire surely not Have been to collect other half's car this morning he had to leave it and take train as Malvern was gridlocked. Amazing no. of abandoned cars on either side of Malverns one bus at the top. This wasn't the worst road though, they reckon 250 + cars abandoned on Worcs to Hereford Road and haven't reopened it yet.
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Terrible conditions in Brum last night.
Our Liz was trying to get back from the city centre at about 4pm (less than 4 miles). She and everyone else on the bus had to get off and walk home in the blizzard after they took 1 1/2 hours to go 2 miles. The bus driver decided it was too dangerous to go any further - the double-decker had just gone sideways down a gentle hill - and chucked everyone off.
Some passengers were facing a further 8 miles walk as nothing was moving and buses and trains were cancelled. Generously, many were passengers with only short journeys were offering complete strangers beds for the night. I have heard of some motorists taking 6 hours to get home!
When I took Liz to school at 5.30 this morning (Geog field trip to Iceland) conditions had improved considerably but there were still scores of cars and vans abandoned along the route.

It was just a bit disappointing that there wasn't much snow left in Cambridge by Friday morning. The cattle got extra hay, though - that's why LS, the 3 month old calf in my photo is looking so contented. By the way, while I still enjoy snowballs etc, I did have to go to the Birmingham Eye Hospital every Monday morning for a whole term after a miss aimed snow / ice ball hit me in the eye, and basically meant that years later I had to give up any hope of a career involving looking at living things down a microscope - a bit of a handicap when half way through a Marine Biology degree! So, hitting windows or walls or bodies is definitelt preferable to hitting faces.

Rubbish snow in Yorkshire
Well I'd love to say we'd had lashings of snow here in Leeds, but it was utter rubbish. Hardly anything to speak of all week, with the kids getting really excited that we might, at last, be able to get the sledge out, and we had a mere dusting, which was gone by the time the rain hit us this morning . Saw pics from my folks in Warwickshire, and they've been out ski-ing! None north of the border either, so it was mostly a southern/eastern event.
Never know, February's not done so we may yet have something resembling winter here yet...
