I read a report about this in the Wrekin magazine - it sound brilliant - apparently the biggest problem is crashing into pedestrians. also beware of cheap flights to Venice(Treviso) - it's MILES from venice I think its Venice (Marco Polo) you want

that would be so cool! i read about the race in o sport and it sounds crazy. you have to think about how many bridges you are going to cross on a route aswell because the add lots of climb. if loads of unis went it would be ace.

would be a great way to get newbies into the excitment, plus loads of banter and travelling is always good.
hostel for about 11 quid a night seems ok, would probably get a discount if you booked loads of rooms.

all the unis should try and get together and organise something, have an inter uni comp too maybe

we'd definitely have to book accomodation before going as i had no end of trouble arriving without accom. took us a whole day to find some, but we did end up on a campsite on the mainland nearby, cost us something like £5 a night in a little hut thingy.

Accommodation is certainly much cheaper if you don't stay on the islands - but then you get industrial post-modern archtecture in Mestre (the mainland bit of Venice).
Take your wellies - we were in Venice this time two years ago and they had just had an aqua alta (50cm) and there were very narrow walkways in many of the streets, which would make route choice more entertaining - if you can get past the slow-moving crocodiles of tourists.
Seem to remember also that when they have the Venice marathon, they put ramps over the bridges so the poor dears don't have to break stride to go up the steps - but then we orienteers are made of sterner stuff.
So, is this a Uni's only trip?
