When I first saw the headline "Whale swims past Houses of Parliament" on the Evening Standard, I thought it was Greenpeace dumping one like they'd done in Germany to protest about whaling. Didn't realise it was a real one until the TV news on Saturday.
Anyome remember the sex abuse trial involving Freddy the bottlenose dolphin who hung around in Amble harbour sometime between 1989 and 1992? Actually, it wasn't too clear whether the man was abusing the dolphin (the subject of the court case) or the dolphin was abusing the human! At the time, I was studying Marine Biology and University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where one of our lecturers was slightly on the large side, so we had "Freddy the dolphin" and "Friddy the whale". Sadly, soon after the court case, Freddy disappeared, and it was suspected that he was killed by fishermen.
