training for 14+ months, 3 hours a day. 7 days a week. and still managing to take over 2 hours on a 6km course at the Irish Inter-Varsities.
although i may have had a drink the night before.
which coincidently leads me onto another embarassing story
to be told over a campfire, while drinkin Absinthe.

Getting sent out at the 11 person relay last year on the last leg, a tartan course, it being my 3rd orienteering event ever (first 2 local club events). Finally appearing out of forest after 1 hr 40 mins, to find two cars remaining in field, download closed, no run-in and search party had eaten all the burgers before bothering to try and find me.
180 minute man - after your superb light green effort at the weekend, I think M/W 40- is about your level!

Embarrassing moment - there have been so many - but probably mis-punching us out of the lead on the last leg of the family relay at last year's white rose - i just wish i hadn't done all that football goal scoring style celebrating crossing the line

I can remember at EYOC in 200...
on the relay day there was a river crossing (well stream but then its not as good sounding) which had a little bridge built over it as in was a few metres across, and as i would find out, quite deep in the middle. before my run, i decided that i would go through, as no-one else was. so i ran along the bank towards the bridge and turned to cross just after the bridge. everything went well to the point where it was quite deep and my legs refused to keep going. momentum however took over so before i knew it we're talking head-first into the water. plenty of people there watching of course. map got a bit wet too and i still had 1.5k ish left...

Being told on the run-in of the british schools at Cragside "you didn't have to re-map the area while you were at it".

Being so lost in a JHI on the Trossachs that I had to ask for help in the forest from (I assume) the planner/controller, and then bursting into tears when they said "No, it's a home international". I finished very, very last

Embarrassing or worst moment! When we first moved to Norway I entered the M35L at one of their Championships. I set off armed with my hard earned UK orienteering experience to find myself to lost that I ended up meeting moose. In Norway they clear the area of moose before an event starts. Due to the total lack of confidence and discernible relocation features I ended up just heading on a bearing until I found a road and then hitched back to the assembly area 3 hours later!

how about being the team coach for one of the JHIs, going out on the course for a bit of a run, and spending over an hour looking for the first control. eventually gave up and went back to the assembly area. dented my pride so much i couldn't even download. reckon they're still looking for me out there...

how coming a miserable last at the alc-O at the 6-days, by a rather convincing 2 hours? i had just finished my last drink when they did the prize-giving.
