so, a question for all those techy folk out there.
i'm looking at getting an Ipod, for the obvious reason of listening to tunes and stuff, but also to store photos on it.
i'm away for 2 1/2 months, so could do with having somewhere to download pics froma digital camera (which i have yet to buy, any suggestions?)
to something so i don't need loads of memory cards.
is an ipod photo a good way of doing it?
if so how easy is it?
can i store photos on a normal ipod as data?
what is a reasonable price for an ipod? got a quote of £235 for 30gb photo incl p&P
Cheers
Bruce

If you're looking for the storage of photos to be more than a side-function you might want to look into one of the new portable entertainment players such as the iRiver PMP140. That model will play videos as well as music and iRiver have a reputation for making exellent mp3 players. You get a larger display for previewing your photos. If you're looking for a more slimline device the H320/H340 from the same company supports photos but not video and costs considerably less.
If however you have your heart set on an iPod the you're a lost cause.

If your looking for something good to store music on get a Sony NW-HD5 they are said to be better than ipods and have a crazily long 40 hour battery life. Don't store pictures though.

Only odd thing is the price has actually gone up slightly since I got mine about half a year ago.

i would definitely recommend an ipod, ive had mine for 6 months now and never had a problem with it, nor have any of my friends that have them. i love it and use it all the time. only problem is battery life really. and the wma format isnt a problem providing theyre not protected files.
whatever you go for though, i wouldnt recommend creative. i know so many people whove had big problems with customer service and they seem to break all the time. my friend is on her 4th since christmas at the moment, and its not like shes not careful with it.

for a more useful suggestion.
why bother with mega gigs of memory - will you really not go anywhere near a compooter for 2 1/2 months?
could you not get by with a couple of spare memory sticks?
Plus you don't have to save every crap photo you take - do some editing, delete the poor ones.
Surely thats half the point of a digital camera.
Be realistic about how many pics you will ever want to look at after the trip.
