on the Scotland page of the BBC news they have this report http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4075012.stm

And according to the two reports Collins Dictionary Neds and Chavs are both defined as "a young working-class male who dresses in casual sports clothes".

I don't think they really are the same, a NED is a Non-educated delinquent, a chav would be closer to a 'schemey' which in my view is a person of working class whom resides within a council housing scheme.

So at the end of the day Scotia is a ned not a schemey or a chav.

At the end of the BBC Scotland report there is a space where you can put your view and put other sugestions in.

What else should be in there if anything?

SI Card, dobbing (ie giving someone a dobbing) etc?

Just checked the OED site. Nothing to say about chavs, but neds are in. Seems the origins go further back than we might have thought.

ned, n.2 slang (chiefly Sc.). A stupid or worthless person; a good-for-nothing; spec. a hooligan, thug, yob, or petty criminal. Also used as a general term of disapprobation.
