The Passing of Picture Wars
How am I going to spend my down time after work now? I guess it was becoming an addiction and had to end but I was hoping it would come full circle to the banana. Rather fitting that Nailest should put the last nail in the coffin. Thankyou Brooner for starting it rolling, respect to Ryeland of Doom (I love your mind), Nailest et al.

Orienteering beats picture wars (though picture wars beats an office job).
For example, the DFOK District event at Shorne tommorrow.....
Plus points.
- Although called a country park, not a country park in orienteering terms. The main part is an old quarry so there are some quite complex contours. It's almost all forest.
- Reasonably big area for a Dartford area.
- A few reasonable hills to puff you out (southern hills).
- Nice path network for the easy courses.
- Easy to get to, right next to the A2.
- Park cafe should be open
- Stop off at Bluewater for some shopping on the way home (no hoodies please)
Minus points.
- The area is split by the A2 and channel rail link, which means a couple of dead legs and the tranquility disturbed.
- Much of the woodland is mature, but some is quite young. Beanpoles will have to do some ducking under the trees.

Sean,
When you sent me that text in an e-mail the other day I thought it was personal... Now it looks like a circular.
See you in the morning..

All right, you scrawny beanpoles: becoming a cop is not something that happens overnight. It takes one solid weekend of training to get that badge.

Bendover, you have obviously never been to Shorne. Shorne is the best area in the whole of ... err, Gravesend.
The dead trees picture is an arty picture (apparently) from the local camera club. Grabbed of the web. Here's a greener one of Shorne.
Anyone care to start an orienteering area picture war?

it's happening (despite attempts from a higher level to try and disguise this fact) and its going to be amazing!
what more do you need to know?

Shorne - you don't get them like this up north
Occasionally at O events in the SE someone is mad enough to think it is necessary to post a sign with the warning that if you venture on the M25, M3 etc then you will be dsq'd.
Shorne bucked this trend where there was actually a requirement to run 300m along the hard shoulder of the A2(M). Still, it wasn''t as bad as it sounds as we were at least facing the oncoming traffic.

Many years ago there was an event in Windsor Great Park which bordered the now defunct Safari Park. Next to the uncrossable fence was the comment "BEWARE LIONS, DO NOT CROSS". However, despite the event being held on April 1st, this was true!! Hopefully nobody decided to put it to the test!!

Although I love Brooners pictures, I'd rather run in trees, however the photo of Shorne doesn't show how many brambles there are. For me the best terrain is beech woodland, unfortunately there's not enough of it about.
Why is it best? Because generally running is not impeded by rocks or brambles or heather or tussocky grass.

I thought I was pretty kind in not mentioning that the leg between controls 10 and 11 (genuinely) involved a run through the construction site for the channel tunnel rail link:
The leg to control 11.

Look doughnut boy, the M25 central reservation near junction 2 is one of our best areas! At least the vandals can't get at the controls.
