Someone asked me a question about butterfly loops on Saturday. Whether we should have more of them in the UK? I babbled a bit but what i meant was if just for the sake of having them then NO but if you need to split people or make the best of a teeny area then maybe. But generally going back to the same control 2 or more times will reduce the technicality of the course, regardless of from which direction, it may be more fun for the spectators but in my opinion "it's athletes games" and you've got to give us the best possible course. there are never normally many spectators at GB events anyway and the butterflies usually tend to be out in the forest so if it's just so a planner can say "people...there's going to be butterfly loops, aren't i radical" then that's silly.
ANYWAY
why is a butterfly called a butterfly? butter..eh? it occurred to me, a much better name would be a flutterby because that's what they do. flutter by.

stick, wrong end of.
she's quite happy with the naming of the butterfly loops but not the naming of butterflies.

and flutterby sounds much cuter than bloodfly which he suggested. although maybe the flutterby loops at blodslitet could be called bloodfly loops as a special exception. i propose the outlawing of the name "butterfly" as false advertising. it's not like they are honey bees making butter. pish.

not all minibeast common names upset me,
fly... fair enough,
spider.. yeah ok,
woodlouse... no complaints there
dragonfly is admittedly stretching it but i'll let it go just because the dragonfly on fingermouse was quite cool.
butterfly has to go tho.
as do i but just waiting for the rush hour traffic to die down before i cycle off, weegie van drivers won't brake.
