alan, i wouldnt delve to far into the banter section if i were you, im sure there are some things about your beloved children you just dont want to know...
but 100 members before the season starts, surely thats pretty good?
and i did a google search for nopesport and it seems that quite a lot of clubs are starting to pick up on it too, and add it to there links sections etc. which is very nice of them. thanks to anyone who has.

Thanks for the welcome - hope I get the hang of this posting thingy!! I'm sure my kids are able to take care of themselves - after all Dan is flying the coop later this year!
I do have a question though. Do any of you web experts have any good suggestions for software to use to design a SIMPLE web site? I want to be able to post info and photos (of unrecognisable children of course!) for our local school teams (King Henry VIII Coventry) that Jane (wife) and I run. Some pointers would be welcomed.

theres a big rant about not using microsoft products for websites here:
http://www.nopesport.com/forum/viewtopi ... oc+website
but seeing as most people have frontpage it is pretty easy to make a simple website with. Better (imo) is to use macromedia dreamweaver although this costs some £'s (unless samsonite doesn't give you a pirate copy as that would be illegal and immoral).

dreamweaver is the way to go for websites that use html if you don't want to write the html yourself that is. i write my sites from scratch using notepad! it works for me.

I used to use Adobe Golive6, simple to use but powerful, if you cant get an illegal copy (i am in no way enocouraging this...) use freebie frontpage. Found pictures were best made/tweaked in photoshop7.
now use fireworks, dreamweaver and loads of stuff but you cant beat notepad.
There are places for topics like this, and nopesport is not one of them.

Try mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org) - open-source freeware thing based on the old netscape stuff. Has a reasonable web page designer, or if you can find the proper netscape I think that's what Oli does the PeelLandSurveys webpage in now (http://www.peellandsurveys.co.uk)

If you want to see who's linking to your website then try the jlinks code here. http://www.vindaloo.uklinux.net/jjg/code.html
Its written by an RA in my department at uni. It does a google hack that lists all websites that links or mentions yours. It should work on all POSIX like operating systems but probably not on dirty Windows.

Or just type link:http://www.nopesport.com (or whatever) into google and it lists all sites linking to http://www.nopesport.com (or whatever)
Hardly a google 'hack'

100th etc etc
Sorry Mrs H (?), you were obviously too keen!
Seriously though, I have been reading the topic about kidpics and have to agree with your sentiments. I will be researching what the law (!) says and also what the school's policy is.
Have to say that it is a rare junior that doesn't like to see their pic in Compassport / RC5 / on a website / in a paper etc. Whenever Compassport / RC5 arrives at our house, my 4 all look for themselves and their friends.
It may soon be difficult to find anything that's fun AND legal the way this government...... (sorry getting political there).
We print a quarterly magazine for a local health project (nothing related to orienteering or indeed sport) and they have pics of children - just so long as permission has been obtained from parents although they don't put names under them. We also print a calendar for them and they distribute about 1,000 and this year the theme was kids and dads. They did give first names in that.

I forgive you D,J,Jand M's Dads (could you shorten that to 'dad' do you think? it takes a lot of typing)but the picture business is a worry and I think the Government is in danger of shooting themselves in the foot over it - there are very few children at risk from very few adults - I favour more of an inertia approach - "if you don't want your picture in or to be identified then let us know" I'm sure that should be sufficient
