According to the Uni website, it's not just a University holiday, but an Edinburgh public one. Which begs the question why there's as many people here at work as on any other day.
Question for the grammar nazis. What do you think to "a university"? "An University", looks and sounds wrong, but the word does start with a vowel. Is it the letter or the sound you go by?

The sound. Kitch must be going to stay in a distinctly old-fashioned hotel

Back to the main topic, how come the City of Edinburgh decided to give itself an extra holiday? Imagine what would happen if every city in the country took random different days off...

All towns in Scotland have their own holidays so no need to imagine.
As Graeme has pointed out to BOF ad nauseam this means that a lot of us don't get the early May Monday bank holiday or Easter Monday off.

I think that's pretty much what Scotland does. Still haven't quite got the hang of how the holidays up here work. Not that it would really make much difference to me, but it'd be nice to know.
