A line from an album some of you have never heard of:
"Is anyone left alive ?"
I stupidly posted this 10 minutes ago on the Western Night League category.
Hah !
Was it then flagged up under 'new post' ?? - Was it hell !
I soon realised the Western Night League permanent thread is as old and dead as most of its participants.
So I've posted it here in the hope that some 'Night Leaguer' will respond.
Time was, Western Night Leaguers would comment regularly.
Not so recently it seems.
Has everyone defected to Facebook or other social media ?
Or is the WNL now frequented by sad, cynical old gits like me who's kids have flown the nest, who are losing faith in humanity, detest the increase of c**p brambly areas for night O, and have been caught lingering just a little too long outside the lingerie store ?
Is there no real interest in talking about the WNL anymore ?
Some recent years have used poor areas, but this year is a bit better, although when I visited West woods last year, it was very brambly.
Some one needs to drop a literary hand grenade on this site. I'll think of something controversial.
A thought - Are you still using the silly "handicap according to ability" system. Or has someone seen the light and reverted to the much fairer BOF Handicap system ??
Hello ?

Re: Selling England by the pound
"There's no-one left alive, it must be a draw" in another track by the same group contains an O area in its title.
I used to compete regularly in the WNL, but not since moving to Liverpool 2 years ago. At that time the league was alive and well, as were it's participants, and I hope that is still the case.
I actually preferred the WNL score format to the NWNL fixed courses, and the WNL handicap system meant that everyone who attended regularly had a chance.

Re: Selling England by the pound
The Nopers that used to run the WNL have fairly well stopped. So it's dead here. I set up the Google discussion group as a more inclusive forum e.g. you don't need to get moderated to sign up to it but no-one posts to that.
If we want somewhere to discuss the league then Facebook is probably the best bet now. I don't remember the pros and cons around a page or a group or whatever else the options are but may take a look over the weekend.
The good news is that the first race of the season went down very well. A respectable turnout at 38. Proper M21's winning not old codgers. Only 3 40+ runners in the top 10 has not happened for a long time I think. Just need to encourage them to do enough events to win the league.
Still the same old golfing handicap system. If you want to push something different I would be delighted not to be the coordinator as I am no good at the job.
