Just a few days until Euro 2004 ... and after David James haplessly watched that Japanese shot slip through his legs whilst his bum accelerated towards the goal line, I can't help but wonder when his next full scale blunder will be. I fear a Seamen / Ronaldinho moment isn't too far away ...
Oh, and song for the summmer ... there's only one song you'll be singing:
Eng-er-land Eng-er-land Eng-er-land
Eng-er-land Eng-er-land Eng-er-laaaaand
Eng-er-land Eng-er-land Eng-er-land
En-ger-land
EN_GER_LAND!
Rpt until July .... he he he, bring it on!

This is exactly the reason why english fans are gutted after every major sporting occasion. If you look at it from a neutral you will see it was a fantastic strike from a world class striker playing for the finest team in the world. I don't like to see brilliant judgement being viewed as being flukey or due to a serious error. And in my view brazil were the only team left at that point who were playing better than england out of the 8 in the qf. The trouble is england needed someone in their own team to blame and despite being world class in goals for england for a decade, seaman will be forever tainted by the england fans.
England should do well but while the fans continue to put everything down to luck rather than just the other team being better then they will continue to be disappointed. I'll be supporting them against france but portugal all the way...

What? Asking for commonsense, truth and a sporting attitude in English football?!
Seriously, this is a good point - I remember watching England Rugby get beaten at Twickenham (a few years ago) when the crowd was upset at the defeat, but genuinely appreciated the amazing brilliance of the all blacks. The attitude was "we will have to get better", not "it's all so and so's fault".

And speaking of Rugby.....
All bLacks at 8:30 am on saturday. Think the english will find the whole tour tough. Especially against the Austrailians 2 weeks later.
But they certainly won't get the hammering that the scots will get when they face the Austrailians on sunday.
As for the football....
Love Engaland to win but we're not good enough as a team yet at all. Having siad that we always perform better in the tournaments (except euro 2000) than in qualifiers.
I loved the way that after a 6-1 beating of Iceland the press seemed all psyched up for them winning the tournament. Could it have anything to do with selling more papers? Have they forgotten how poor we were for most of the match against Japan?

Well Ronaldinho for one admitted it was a fluke!

And it was Seaman's reaction afterwards that made it obvious it was an error on his part. With a pro who has played as long as he's played, you can tell straight away what is an error and what is not.
Now, Brazils first goal was a work of genius. And after the 2nd and Ronaldinho's sending off, they played us off the park, we capitulated and they deserved to go through. An error is still an error though. But you're right Seaman wasn't the reason we were beaten, they were the better team fair and square. It's just gutting that that second goal wasn't as quality as their first one.
Re our defence against Japan. If we play Lampard at the bottom of the diamond. We're in all sorts of bother ... Still, can't wait for long evenings full of quality footy. Will the Spain Portugal game be a cracker? Will Holland pull their ranks together and get out their group. Can't pretend not to be excited. But won't bore Nope with my excitement about footy anymore ...
