The naysayers on the discussion forum are just not thinking of the possibilities for publicity for our sport if we can make the Olympics as a demonstration sport, and a Mixed Sprint Relay could be a huge success. But why stop at Foot-O? what about all the other forms of this wonderful sport?
My suggestion for an exciting spectacle is this:
3 competitors per team - 1 man, 1 woman and 1 of either gender in a wheelchair. runners would go in random order drawn by lot.
3 legs of different length - sprint, middle, and a Trail-O course (no Long course - that would just be silly!). once again, the order of course lengths per team is drawn by lot.
3 different forms - Foot-O, MTB-O, and Trail-O. Again, order to be drawn by lot.
The real bonus is that it could be adapted to Winter Olympics by the simple expedient of removing MTB-O and substituting Ski-O. Brilliant.
What fantastic racing that would produce! All nations would be able to enter a team, and have every chance of a medal.
I hope IOF have the imagination to realise the opportunies, and the determination to see it through.
