I think I must flit too much between Facebook and Nopesport.
After browsing FB, clicking away occasionally on the "Like" button, I can switch across to Nope and read a cracking Post and nod in agreement, or maybe chuckle at witty comment (often from Mrs H or Mrs Merlot!), in both instances mentally clicking my "Nope-like" icon.
Particularly in some of the more contentious debates, one or two posts leap out as beacons of common sense, crying out for a series of supportive "likes". Recent examples I can think of are Graeme's comment in amongst the Ranmore rants and SYO Member's comment in the Harvester 2011 thread.
And which of our regular correspondents do you think would get the most "likes" if we had such a button?
I would like a "Like" button, please

This really is a good idea! Would you also want the ability to order the thread by popularity also?
But you need to market it as "Like" / retweet to widen the appeal.
I bet the s/w doesn't offer this functionality though.

Re: I would like a "Like" button, please
you can't have a like button because Facebook have patented it
twats
I was chatting to my sis about facebook and the fact that its really a load of pants
you sit there asking
will I post some narcissistic tosh, just to make myself seem interesting ?
invariably I reply
I can't be arsed
So we decided we would create our own website called
Arsebook
for people that can't be arsed with imaginary friends.
I just need a code monkey
Pyrat, fancy making a fortune from anti-social networking ?
I can find you a nice dungeon.
In a few years you'll be Holywood box office
but remember - it was my idea (and my sisters)
I'd better patent it fast (I'm such a twat)

I posted the above video on facebook and only one of my friends liked it.
She really is a true friend. I'm even going to her wedding later this month.
6 more of my facebook friends invited me to their weddings but I was too busy detagging photos of myself and writing about my perfect life on facebook to attend.

Re: I would like a "Like" button, please
Well I like facebook. When you're miles away from home it makes it easier to keep in touch with people. It's no substitute for big long letters but there's not always the time for them. There's also a few people I've met at conferences and things that I wouldn't have stayed in touch with otherwise, and have helped with jobs and things like that (Linked In still doesn't seem to be much of a thing in my field). There is a woman across the bench from me that can spend entire days on Farmville though, which seems a little excessive.
Though I'll have to remember his beefs the next time I undertake the mighty omelette. I might have to bring a keyboard like that into the next meeting with my lab supervisor...

Will? We've got proper fire now!
