I'm sure we should be having a bit more fun than this round here by now. Well while you're snowed in why not think of a few of the things you want to do before you die - I'm not talking the big gung ho things like running sub 3 hour marathons and climbing all the Munros I'm talking little things you always meant to get round to -'cos let's face it some of us aren't getting any younger and ought to get them ticked off our list sooner rather than later.
Well here's a couple of mine to get started.
I want to have a go at karaoke - I mean why should Young Neville have all the fun? Preferably Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler or True Colours by Cindy Lauper or something else to get your teeth into.
I want to go to a really big darts match possibly between Ted Hankey and Phil "The Power" Taylor. Everyone looks like they're having such a good time.
I want to be part of an enormous Mexican Wave maybe in the Olympic stadium.
over to you......

Go to Paris for a (really) long weekend ... Visit Iceland, the Faroes, Shetland ... see the Northern Lights ... knit a proper Fair Isle jumper (never mind the first one that I started and haven't yet finished)

Well just before I die, given what is about to happen, I think I'll fill out a thorough and detailed risk assessment.

Re: B4UDIE
Mrs H,
you are spot on with the darts we went to this:
Venue Information: PDC World Darts Alexandra Palace 16 Dec 10 - 3 Jan 11
Alexandra Palace, London, England
Address: Alexandra Palace Way, Wood Green N22 7AY
Directions: By Tube: to Wood Green, then take the W3 outside the station.
Contact Details: Alexandra Palace
Email: sales@alexandrapalace.com
Phone: +44 (0) 20 8365 2121
in 2007; I have to be honest and say I was dragged along but much to my surprise it was a brilliant evening, with the added bonus that the elite athletes on show were all the same size and shape as me - do it!
B4IDIE - I think I will buy a vineyard in italy for something to do in my retirement

Re: B4UDIE
I must be getting old - to me ages to work out what B4UDIE meant. Oh dear.
What do I want to do before I die??? Get the house tidy and get rid of all the junk. (May need to hire a skip or 2)
Win something at a 'big' orienteering competition - my definition of big being white rose - or another multiday.

Re: B4UDIE
I don't really have any.
Not sure if that's because I've already done alot of the things I wanted to do when younger travel wise and am old enough to realise I'm past my mental and physical prime so am unlikely to invent anything amazing or break any sporting records, or just a failure of imagination.
I've done Tatty's list, don't fancy Mrs H's, and feel a bit like NFKleanne in that what I'd really like at the moment is for someone else to sort out all the large piles of papers in this room that I've been putting off dealing with, and do my accounts for me. Trouble is only I can sort these out.

I can't wait to go. My big sister and brother in law lived in Rotorua for 5 years, but we'd just got married and couldn't afford to go. The scenery looks amazing. The O map just looks like some they showed me

Re: B4UDIE
Yes New Zealand is on my BIG B4UDIE list too - I was meant to go on a delayed honeymoon there but ended up in the maternity hospital and the rest as they say is history - we plan a trip for our silver wedding instead in a few years time.
No it was the little things I was more interested in - although Frog is making me feel frivolous - I like the kingfisher thing - I have seen a few (and I've knitted a fair isle jumper, been to Iceland and knitted an Icelandic jumper as well)
I want something a bit less worthy and a bit more indulgent and fun

I would like to wax my moustache into some handlebar twirls. Not sure whether I'll ever be permitted to do so, though

Re: B4UDIE
Every year I make a new list, and then make sure I get a couple of things on the calendar.
Unfortunately the list never gets any shorter and some stuff just won't fit on,
like; learning to play an instrument tolerably well or learning a language well enough to hold a normal conversation!
Ignoring the BIG STUFF like cycling around the whole coastline of GB or walking the length and/or breadth of the country, then there are some of MrsH's little things that I really want to do that I could do tomorrow (ok maybe not tomorrow) but I somehow never do. Such as sleeping in a wood. Not at a campsite and not in a tent - just in a bivi bag in a proper decidudous wood with rooks roosting overhead and the like. This is not as straightforward as it sounds though because I dont do spiders, not even the little ones. I'd also like to be able to sing. And I don't mean conservatoire stuff, I just mean in-tune.
I've seen 2 kingfishers. One on an industrial canal and another in an urban park - fantastic and unmistakeable!

Go to Norway and see the Fjords. Hopefully might tick that one next year. Drive a luggage trolley round a crowded railway station. Do a Go Ape course. Go ice skating.
I'd quite like to be able to sing in tune, dance, paint or draw something recognisable.
Be able to get over my claustrophobia so I could do a lot of the things I dream about.

If we're doing birdlife-we-would-like-to-see-in-the-wild, a conversation yesterday reminded me that I would very much like to see one of the (reintroduced) great bustards on Salisbury Plain.
