Yeah non-smoking bits where it is all the same room are all very good in theory but the smoke does drift, and for your info we were in the NON-smoking bit, but it's only a little pub. I personally don't care about the smell apart from that probably means i am still inhaling toxic stuffs from them. Also don't care if they smoke outside, what i object to is when they puff it out into your face.

but as i tried to say, we don't have the choice we want, which is to go out and not inhale smoke.
!
If everyone in this world had the choices they wanted then the world would fall to bits... in my mind moaning about not having the choice you want is about as selfish as smoker's smoking in public

And about going out running in the rain & wind... you might want the choice of running in the warm sunshine... but it's raining so you are choiceless

Agree with G because slitting the wrists of those around you is illegal and against the law & you'd end up in jail.... whereas sitting in a pub & smoking is a perfectly legal activity at present and as such smokers are entitled to smoke. Again it's your choice to go into a smoky pub or not..... (I've just arranged a night out in Vilnius... we choose to go upstairs in one bar because it's non-smoking:))

Plenty people stink for reasons other than smoking.... if you don't want to go to a smokey enviroment you have the right to chose not to... that is your choice NOT that of the smoker....
And if your hair stinks of smoke after a night out then wash it & if your clothes stink... put clean ones on & wash the dirty ones.... how many smokers would moan if they went on a University O Club minibus on the long drive home after a hard weekends orienteering... the smell would be terrible:)
I think you've missed my point Gross, if I go to the pub I expect, under current rules to come back smelling of smoke, the new rules will quite rightly put an end to this. Smokers are moaning that they should have the right to smoke when and where they like, to risk the health of us all and make us smell - I don't think so.
As an Environmental consultant we have to do risk assessments prior to going to site. If I had to go to a site with air contaminants that cigarettes give off, I'd have to wear breathing apparatus.
As for stinking on minibuses on the way home, thats part of orienteering, if you don't want to be smelly and muddy you wouldn't be in the Forest in the first place.

yes i agree - we would be choiceless - but the choice is not being removed by a person, or group of people - hence it cannot be controlled.
(by the way Gross - i don't want it to look like i am having a go at you!

But following you argument to its logical conclusion, rather than making smoking in a pub illegal you should make slitting other people's wrists in a pub legal. After all people still have the choice - if they don't want their wrists slitting they should stay at home. No reason why psychopaths should have the right to go around slitting wrists taken away from them. After all they're addicts and couldn't stop if they wanted to, and are just out to have a pleasant evening drinking and slitting wrists.

But who's going to be daft enough to make wrist slitting a legal activity???? Just as for once Westminster is being sensible & banning smoking.... but not even they would vote through random wrist slitting

an email i got today about some research being done in the university:
We are undertaking research looking into the effects of fish oils in
healthy cigarette smokers.
We are looking for healthy male smokers (at least 10 cigarettes per
day) aged 18 or over....
If you smoke 10 fags a day are you really healthy???
