well i was once training in the pleasance gym, finished my session and walked back home. lo and behold to find my road closed off and a few people of the night cowering in my doorway wearing black tie formal evening wear. well back in my flat the only option was to go upstairs get the megaphone out and give the crowd some banter. however some gruff WPC started shouting at me to stop so Eddie had a visit from the local rozzers.

'Listen son do you know who is town tonight'
'Not a clue'
'The Queen you prick and if i see that loudhailer again i am going to arrest you'

so the queen arrived next door eddie spent the night in his bed and no she hadn't been orienteering although philip was sporting a huge SI - card

This one time I was out on the fells giving a bunch of stalkers the slip, when I bumped into a small group of orienteers, only they weren't orienteering, oh no, they were enjoying a spot of roller blading. At least one of them was. He was attached to the back of the AsianMobile what was rocketting doon the road, 'boot 70mph I'd say, and what's more he'd forgot to put his kecks on. Proper starkers like. The wind chill affected him badly "Fancy meeting these international orienteers up here", I said to myself. Crazy hey? I don't even graze up there normally, but some [noper] with a shotgun wanted me for his din-dins.

Thought this would be an apt little tale...

Picture the scene...some scanky Russian train station at a railway junction - vodka, mafia, promiscuous woman, guns, torture chambers instead of ticket offices, Gross... It is the summer of 1999 and a not so fresh faced 18-year-old Andrei Khramov is waiting at the station waiting for his train back home to "Backarsoknovareski" after competing in the European Youth Orienteering Champs. Randomly out of all the people he could meet, he bumps into the Russian Junior World Orienteering Championships team (but only Andrei had been orienteering). The JWOC team were on there way to Bulgaria to compete in the Champioships and one of their team hadn't come because he was sick or was working in a sweat shop or something. So the team coach says, "Andrei, I like you, you are nice boy, you like to last a long time...in orienteering race. You want to come to Bulgaria. JWOC you run. Nice. Thank you, please". So Andrei's like "Aye man, wahey, no worries like!".

He goes to JWOC and is entered for the Classic distance. Now it was hot in Bulgaria (ask Bendover as I seem to recall a photo of him where he had found an entire bar which had actually been built inside a fridge - at least that was what it looked like to me). So due to the heat the Russians team tactics were to put their top runners of first in the relative coolness of the morning. So little Khramov, the random orienteer they bumped into at a train station was put off last out of all the russians, and pretty much out of everyone. However, one guy to start behind him was Felix Bentz a hot Swiss favourite, who caught Khramov up half way round. But when the pair got to a drink's control together in the 40C heat, the tables turned. There was no water. Bentz was buggered. Khramov just grunted. Bentz tried to hold on, but that wild beast Khramov went bazerka! Khramov was like a wilderbeast on heat, he ate up the rest of the course and ended up winning one of the toughest JWOC Classic races ever - banter!

So there you go - Andrei Khramov once met the Russian JWOC team at a Russian train station. Only Khramov had been orienteering.

I once met Uncle Richard while I was out biking in Leeds.

I also met him on a fell in the Lakes at christmas, dressed as a christmas tree. I would have thought that strange, but for the fact I was dressed as Santa...

I've got one, I've got one I have just this minute returned from a little jogette on the Malvern hills and who should I meet but David Lowe - David Who? I hear you say. David is a composer - never heard of him - well maybe not but you've heard his music. He writes mostly TV themes including stuff for Ray Mears, Jeremy clarkson, gardening, holidays and a catchy littly thing what is is now - Oh yes the BBC News theme - nice little earner that one - check out the credits at the end of a few shows. He also had a number one hit a couple of years back called Would You(Go to bed with me) with a smashing horn solo. He did the same journo course as me a quarter of a century ago and co-incidentally his daughter is in the same class at the local primary as youngest Miss H. - AND she does a bit of orienteering - there you are full circle BOOSCH lol

I been workin hard out here but met this nice expat swede who was brought up at a colonial school in singapore (didsco used to 'teach' her at english school and we spotted them in a bar and couldnt stop ourselves from popping in for a wee chat) so when i found out she was a colonial i just thought of all the jobby james has said from his colonial days so i just got into that vain of banter and she loved it - she not atall like the normal swedes so its good. So i been foolin around with here for a bit now so feeling much more at home here in sunny sweden. You done test yet? Send us a proper email with the banter eh
