I suppose snus affects only the user whereas smoking makes other people breathe in smoke/smell of it for ages - and the litter from the used packets could only be as bad as cigarette butts. I'm not in favour of it but I would rather have a smaller proportion of Brits smoking and using snus instead. Having said that there will probably be a report in the future telling us that it harms unborn children, gives 25% of users cancer etc etc

Nailest hit nail (as it were)on the head If you believe in Snus, buy shares in Swedish Match now. Mega financial consequences for them if EU ban lifted.
What's the truth? As ever, research that's not published will be at least as important as that which is, and epidemiological studies are always hard to interpret . Google it and most blah blah is coming from the tobacco companies.
Not coming down on any side, just a trained cynic, who has seen enough of nicotine! Grandma (born 1887)used snuff regularly, lived to 91,and left me her snuff box, but that doesn't prove anything.
More blah, and a picture at:-http://www.tobaksfakta.org/files/70_Snusengelska.pdf
have a great summer

oops, that was a banter-stopper!
Agree smoke-free socialising good, even if banter is with men with strangely protruding upper lips...(aka Homer Simpson?) but Swedish women appear not to have taken to snus, and have gone on smoking. So environment still smoky.
It's being sold to EU as the best "cigarette smoking cessation product" on the market on basis of "Swedish experience" (now that used to mean something different in 1970s!) but 1 in 2 male swedish users seem to want to give it up, find themselves hooked, and spend as much per year on it as they did on cigarettes.
strange or what?
