not really, publisher can be just as good as some other webtools if you can use it properly, and most people already understand publisher so it's better for simpler websites...althought front page is alot easier to use

At the risk of starting one of those tedious "software wars", I have to say that Publisher (and front page for that matter) are not good web tools. Publisher, in particular, creates "bloat code" with all sorts of uneccessary hidden stuff in it, it often publishes text documents as images, so you cannot do things like cut and paste the text and it produces pages that only look right in the very latest Microsoft browser and sometimes do not work at all for anyone else.

Publisher is not bad for beginners producing printed materials. It is useful for people who need to move from that to their first few web pages, but if you want to do something with web pages that works well, you have to leave it behind.

lol....ok, so im not continuing the war..i agree, but it only makes the text into a picture document if you overlap pictures and text, this can be overcome by cropping pictures.....and i find i can do everythin gin frontpage that i can in other packaes to just a high a standard but all software has advantages and disadvantages so theres no point argueing over it....i just think publisher / frontpage are the best for computer beginners as they are simple and still produce high quality web pages....

I would've liked to use webpage constructor software but unfortunately my school doesn't currently own any and I wanted the school orienteering team to have access to a webpgae that I hope will help them to go on things like Nopesport and get more involved in orienteering. They're the upandcoming stars of the longdistant future!!

Most of my websites have been written using Notepad - I bet they've got that

You're right that for now you should use whatever you can to create your pages and get the information online, but if you want to really get to understand html there's no substitute for writing some pages from scratch.

well done on creating your site, well done for just getting on with it and doing it the only way you know how.

ignore these people, i think they are forgetting that you just wanted a simple site for your school.

I agree, it is always better to get on with it and do it with what you've got than to wait until something better comes along - far better to have a few informative pages working than to keep experimenting and not have anything working for ages (been there, done that too often)

I was just suggesting that you might get some help (in terms of web space and maybe software) from school as it is a school club.

i visited your site. I hope you take pride in a great accomplishment - a working web site for your club that reads well and provides useful information, and that this will spur you to go further.
