Computers make their IP addresses known - any website can use it, and they often do to track usage etc. For example, take a look at:
http://remote.12dt.com/rns/
It'll automatically show your IP address, and if you hit submit what provider/network point etc you are on.
it's only because the IP matches with Trebors that the two users can be linked. the moderators only know its coming from the same IP (and hence computer in this case), that doesn't give a physical location for the machine, or who is using it..
