Route choice

Ey up everyone - was at Gilling today and presented with this slightly tricky route choice from 7 to 8. What would you guys have done? I marked my route on. Sorry if this comes out unreadable, my scanner is a bit rub. I'll try and chance it later if it does! Hope the planner doesn't mind me doing this - I would say it's the highest form of flattery!

A few people went wide round to the left with the initial climb but then downhill all the way. I'm not convinced of it. I actually meant to go a bit straighter and use the ride but then went out of the control in the wrong direction by mistake.

Followed the stream NE out of 7 downhill through the white - dead bracken with lots of deer tracks. Almost certainly slower than the path route, but more fun. It is Xmas after all.

Not sure, no results up yet! I did 64.04.

could have been tempted to follow the stream to the path running north, cut across to the fence corner by the green/open, along the fence, cross the marsh/stream by the pit and onto your route.

that was after a bit of thinking, initially I saw the route back past 5 and 6, then straight down along the stream through the rough open. I would guess this would be about the same distance as the route you took.

Is that the brown. I think I had exactly the same leg on blue, and did exactly the same. I wasn't but convinced by it but looking again at the map I think it would have been as quick as any routes to the left, very runnable at least.

i messed up before that, by folding my map so that I missed a road, duh

actually it wasn't quite the same, but virtually, I jsut had the depression to the west of the ride

I would definitely have done the Peter B-route. Maybe trying to cut the corner through the open area a bit more, the undergrowth can't be to bad in the winter.

there must be almost a whole 25 metres climb on peter b's route, it's not exactly ben nevis is it.

I think i would have done the same route as Peter B, although I dont think there is much in it.
