When you heading over laddie? If yer thinking of heading up north then there is plenty of o'ing to be had just before term starts in the late summer / autumn. Plenty of other stuff to while away the hours as well. Sitting out on the ferry in the harbour, supping beer as the sun skims the horizon at midnight is our current midweek activity of choice, especially just now as it hasn't dropped below 18oC since Thursday (25oC and sun, sun, sun at the moment.....). The nolleperioden (fresher's week) starts here on August 17th.... don't know when it starts in Lund but they say the one here is the best in the country.

if you go to stockholm you could hire a canoe or two from somewhere out on the edge of the mainland and canoe out and camp on an island out in the archipelago. its gorgeous. you also get a ferry out and hire a canoe from somewhere further out if you want to get to the really really remote islands.
i never did this in the end, went out on family boat, but will do one day.
we went to gallivare up north and ran dunder dygnet, it was amazing but didn't think much of round there if you weren't doing the race - also midsummer is the best time to go there - midnight sun etc.

You can hire canoes here as well and go out amongst the islands. Much better than down in Stockholm. We even have saunas on our islands and Luleå is the sunniest place in Sweden.....
If you fancy seeing Slade, Europe and The Sweet in action (and who wouldn't !?!) you can always come here to Lule on August 7th - the annual town pish-up, otherwise known as Luleåkalaset. Achhhh, I'll be at the 6-day then......
Talking of Dunder Dygnet, just put in my entry this morning. Must agree that Gällivare is not the most picturesque of towns but the area around it is outstanding for o-terrain.
You could always go skiing in Riksgränsen

What will you study @Lund? I'm going to Norway in the same period, I'll study @Hamar. Maybe we'll see each other during some competiton in the north

If you're looking for orienteering up north then the weekend 13/14th August should be pretty good as Skellefteå OK have a middle distance on the Saturday and a long distance on the Sunday. Their events tend to be pretty good and usually pull in some decent runners from Umeå as well as from up here. It's the same weekend as the Arctic KIMM in Hemavan.
The weekend after is the District Champs here (long and relays) so there should be plenty of training available during the week as well.
