Nothing against South West. Just the principles involved in some juniors leaving existing clubs to join Sarum. Rumoured to have been encouraged by an adult.

I never know where I stand in these arguments. One side of me says if a club's been supporting you such as paying for tours and stuff and you haven't moved from its area you should probably stick with them. But then, if you live roughly in the SARUM area and you've never had a competitive relay team (Rach Holmes used to despair when we were all running W18- and she was stuck in a mixed ad-hoc every time) why shouldn't you join them?
It's a toughie.

Its not personal, but i just think that its unfair on clubs who's juniors have been dedicated to their club are their life are beaten by people who are literally (and this says something about the south west) allstars - 3 of the girls are on start, and with the likleyhood of a fourth (alice) in september.
I don't hate the club, its the priniciple - i don't see why you have to have the best girls in the country

this happens tho, the quality of youngsters in a club and different parts of the country varies wildly over time, given a few years there might be no girls there - but hopefully their success will encourage more girls to continue orienteering in order to be as successful as their peers.

i dont think they HAVE to have th ebest girls in the country.... if the best girls in the country WANT to run for sarum, thats up to them. if they are going to get a better orienteering experience by joining sarum then they probably will.
i applaud sarum for what they've done, they are offering a better o experience. hopefully the clubs who have lost juniors to sarum will think about what they could have done better, or even if they are bothered! and hopefully what sarum have done can inspire other clubs to develop strong junior teams in other areas of the country to give them some competition!

I don't see what Trebor has got against Sarum. Most of the other clubs in the SW do nothing for the juniors to keep them interested in the sport. The clubs right in the SW have hardly any juniors for relay runs so the juniors are always put into Ad hoc teams. Very few of them, with the exception of Wim and a few others, hold regular training weekends. They aren't doing anything to try and encourage their juniors. If the clubs aren't interested in supporting their juniors then you can't blame the people that have changed clubs for coming to Sarum. All Sarum are doing is to encourage juniors to do their best and encourage others into the sport.
I like to have a competitive relay team and so do the other juniors. If the other clubs aren't going to put the juniors in to a compititive relay team or hold regular training weekends then it's not our fault.
The people that have moved clubs to join Sarum are in competitve relay teams and get what they want out of the sport. The juniors that are joining us want to run for Sarum.

Trebor, the reason we sorted the argument out is becoz i won thw argument!!
The South West are gettin stronger and in a few years we will have an even better range of boys as their are about 4 or 5 young boys bein trained up at the mo - Tom and Harry Butt, Jack Benham,my brother-Dane and Helens lil bro!!
Also we have little Lucy Butt who's gettin better 2!!
So Come On SW!!
